While Gates will only leave a small percentage to each child, the figure is eye-popping
Microsoft co-founder and multibillionaire Bill Gates, 69, has revealed that each of his three children will inherit less than 1% of his estimated $100 billion fortune.
“My kids had a great upbringing and education, but they’ll receive less than 1% of my total wealth because I don’t think it would benefit them,” Gates shared on Raj Shamani’s podcast. “This isn’t about building a dynasty—I’m not expecting them to take over Microsoft.”
As reported by Forbes in its 2025 World’s Billionaires List, Gates currently has a net worth of $102.2 billion, ranking him as the 13th richest person globally. Elon Musk leads the list with a net worth of $342 billion.

Although Bill Gates’ children will inherit only a small portion of his wealth, each is still expected to receive over $1 billion.
Gates is the father of three children, currently aged 28, 25, and 22.
In 2021, Gates and his wife of 27 years, Melinda Gates, finalized their divorce.
The two previously co-led the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—now known simply as the Gates Foundation—which remains the largest charitable organization in the world.

Gates was especially outspoken during the COVID-19 pandemic, donating over $250 million to support various pandemic-related initiatives.

“My foundation works with USAID on nutrition and vaccine distribution, and there are some truly incredible people involved,” Gates said during a February appearance on The View.
“They’re not, you know, actually worms working there. So hopefully, we’ll be able to get some of that work back on track. Because if we don’t, we could literally see millions of deaths.”
